What sources of law can be found in the CAIJ’s Documented Research Questions?

Last updated: 4 June 2025

CAIJ’s Documented research questions are based on a variety of legal sources selected according to the subject matter. These sources may include :

  • Legislation: applicable federal and Quebec laws and regulations.
  • Doctrine: specialized monographs, form books, legal dictionaries, government publications or recognized websites.
  • Case law: court decisions accessible via the CAIJ search engine.
  • Other sources: cross-references to other relevant issues, annotated laws, or even certain periodical articles in specific cases.

The nature and quantity of the sources vary according to the question being addressed. For example:

  • A question may refer solely to doctrine, or may also include case law;
  • Certain sources are excluded (e.g. popular works, conference texts, etc.) if they do not meet the CAIJ’s documentary quality criteria.

The aim is to guide you to the most relevant content to get your legal research off to a good start.
